Print store coming soon…

Tube Silhouette 1
from £50.00

Every month I release a print for purchase here on my website. It comes unframed and is printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta paper. There are only 20 available each month (10 in each size), so these are monthly limited runs. They are signed on the back, dated, and numbered. 30x20cm images have a 3cm border around the edges, and 60x40cm images have a 5cm border around the edges to allow for signing and numbering.

I ship orders out at the end of the month with Royal Mail special delivery for UK based customers, and International tracked for overseas customers.

This month’s print is titled Tube Silouhette 1. This is actually a series of two images, but I’m choosing the first one to sell. I am sure the second will be available at  some point.

The story behind this image is quite fun. There are a few interesting quirks to it – firstly, the dots you see all over the image are an artefact caused by a bad batch of film. Yes, this image was shot on film (Harman Phoenix II) using a Kiev 4A with a Zeiss Sonnar 50mm 1.5 with a very bad case of fungus damage on the rear element. Much of the character this gives the lens isn’t visible here due to the out of focus nature of the shot.

The more astute among you will know that Phoenix II is actually a colour film, and will therefore be surprised at this black and white rendition. Well, as soon as I saw this shot back from the lab, I knew it had to be in black and white. It simply doesn’t work in colour – it’s underexposed and has a vicious green colour cast to it, and the dots you see are blue in the colour version of the image. I am sure some would prefer the version with the huge green colour cast. Alas, I am the artist so I get to decide how I want to present this moment. Trust me, it was a black and white moment, and I instantly fell in love with the character of this image. It’s really quite something for a “missed” shot.

Anyway, I hope you see the magic in this shot as I have. If you do end up buying an image, do send me photos of it hanging on your walls! I’d love to see it.
